For the OP, there are not any openly gay places that fit your criteria. This is not San Fran or a large metro area. You will want to travel to Hotlanta for any major gay scenes in the south. Gay friendly??? Out of curiosity, how does one determine if a place is gay friendly or not?

Or when we say "gay friendly" do we really mean " frequented by gays". I wouldn't say so.

I mean, I have several gay friends and my sister is lesbian. We hang out quite well. So I'd say that I'm gay friendly, but not gay myself. So I'd think a gay friendly place is just one where there's acceptance, whether the folks there are gay or not. Starbuck on I've met quite a few gay guys there, just by random happenstance.

I spent a lot of time in San Fran and miss my gay guy friends so I may be more "attuned" to it than normal people but This is a little off topic, but have you thought about attending Dining with Friends in May? It is a one-time event, but there are gays and straights there.
